Soft washing uses low-pressure water with a biocide solution to kill moss and algae without force. Pressure washing blasts it off mechanically. We use soft washing because high-pressure jets can crack ageing clay and concrete tiles, strip protective coatings, and drive water under the tile overlap. Soft wash is safer, lasts longer, and is recommended for all UK roof types.
Spring through early autumn, ideally March to October. Biocide treatments need temperatures above 5°C to be effective. Cleaning in late autumn still works for the mechanical removal, but the protective treatment performs best in warmer, drier months.
